rebranding

hey guys, i’m still alive! it’s ru here (previously known as @/leenow) and i’ve decided to rebrand this blog into a gaming / television blog because i haven’t been keeping up with kpop since… at least last july so yeah :)

my blog will now primarily focus on red dead redemption 2 (specifically javier escuella), as well as other video games and most likely also television shows! please feel free to unfollow me if you’d rather not see non-kpop content on your dash

i am a javier defender until the DAY i DIE. he did no wrong!!! ever!!! let me explain why and if u disagree ur wrong and i hate u!!!

so the obvious part- during the final standoff between the two parts of the gang, he aims his gun at the sky instead of aiming it at john and arthur. this is because he still loved john and arthur, even if he was upset by what he thought they were doing. he had no intentions of hurting them, and even afterwards he isn’t seen chasing after the two on horseback (may be wrong please correct me if i am).

and!! the REASON he sided with dutch instead of arthur was purely out of devotion and dedication to dutch. dutch saved him even though javier was a mexican who didn’t speak any english, who was currently stealing chickens because he had nothing after fleeing mexico. he didn’t want to go against dutch because he felt indebted to him and didn’t want to “betray” him

also, in rdr1, whilst bill and dutch both tried to kill john on several occasions when he was chasing after them, javier didn’t, and even though yes javier was mad at john and insulted him afterwards, you would too if the person who you thought of as your brother, who you also thought betrayed the person you perceived as a father figure, hunted you down years later and was working with the organisation that caused all of this in the first place!!!

people who don’t like javier. don’t want to hear about it. go yell at a wall.

YES OP THANK YOU !!! i’m going to add onto this post a little bit if you don’t mind, because i think there’s a few more reasons javier stuck to dutch’s side during that beaver hollow standoff;

the main reason, as you said, is because dutch is the one that picked javier up when he was near starving and on the run from the mexican army. dutch is the one that took javier back to camp, that took him under his wing and taught him english, who gave him a second chance at life and a new family. without dutch, javier would’ve starved to death in a foreign country that (a) he didn’t speak the language of and (b) already prejudiced him based on his race.

but there’s more to it than just dutch picking him up from the streets, i do believe. throughout the storyline of rdr2 there’s multiple occassions where dutch leaves arthur or john to fend for themselves, leaves them to die basically. in none of those moments javier is present, except the one where dutch says he’ll go back for john during the final train robbery mission. we don’t know what happened during that but dutch comes back and tells arthur that john is dead, which isn’t the case as we all know. but back to javier. he isn’t there for any of those moments, so what he gets to see is both arthur and john (who, before everything, were so loyal to dutch, like they were his own two sons) starting to doubt and question everything dutch does. and what does dutch do? he poisons javier.

by poisoning javier i mean that dutch knows javier wasn’t there to see him leave arthur or john behind, he knows javier is incredibly loyal to him, and he uses that fact to turn javier against arthur and against john. saying things like how arthur and john are the rats, how they’re betraying their family, because he knows how much their little family matters to javier. and it’s not only dutch, in game we can actually hear a conversation between bill and javier where bill openly suspects john as the camp rat saying “it’s the only option that makes sense”, and javier (at that time) responds with “that doesn’t make much sense either”. i know for sure micah got into javier’s ear at some point too, the rat bastard he is.

and yet it’s not only the poisoning against arthur and john that made javier stay on dutch’s side, it’s also what happened in guarma. javier was shot and taken hostage by the guards on guarma, and he was facing certain death locked up in that cage. who was the person to get him out of there? dutch. yes, arthur was there too, but it was dutch who opened the cage and walked javier out of that whole mess. i feel this only strengthened javier’s sense of loyalty, because dutch has now saved him from certain death twice. without dutch javier wouldn’t have made it out of guarma, and that’s why javier (who was seen briefly doubting dutch’s actions in chapter 3) has his loyalty to dutch reinforced.

i believe that during the beaver hollow standoff, when john stumbled back into camp saying dutch left him behind to die, everything slowly started to click into place for javier. there’s a moment before the standoff in beaver hollow where he indicates he’s feeling nervous because everything is splitting into two sides, and for javier it’s difficult. because on one hand that’s his father figure whom he truly believed loved him, and on the other hand it’s his brothers, the people he’s come to love as his own family. so that moment in beaver hollow, that standoff, where javier slowly realizes that yes, dutch did leave john behind to die – it’s like puzzle pieces coming together. but he stays on dutch’s side because it’s everything coming to him all at once, all that information, he doesn’t have the time to figure it all out then and there. but he refuses to point his gun at john and arthur, points it up to the sky instead (i thank gabriel sloyer every day for this bc he apparently had to fight rockstar on this little detail) because those are still his brothers.

in essence, javier isn’t a bad person, he never was. sure, he made bad choices, but he was a victim of dutch just as much as john and arthur and everybody else were. he was used, manipulated, poisoned against his own brothers, and he ended up making wrong choices. i, too, will defend javier escuella until the day i die because he deserved so much better than the hand he got dealt.
